While some of you reading will have little to no clue about what APRS is, I have been experimenting with various configurations since I picked up my Byonics TinyTrak3+.
Current configuration is:
Byonics TinyTrak3+
APRS World APO3
Yaesu FT2500M
Garmin Etrex GPS
MFJ MiniMag Antenna
This is all connected by the requisite cabling needed to make everything play together nicely.
While this all plays together nicely for the most part, the GPS is showing it's age, and in the spirit of innovation and tinkering, I wanna try something a little different.
My overhaul plans are to make the system messaging capable, by use of a two way TNC, and a display.
The components I've selected for this are:
Alinco DR135
ArgentData OpenTracker2 TNC board for the Alinco
Garmin Nuvi 350 GPS
MFJ MiniMag Antenna
And of course the required cabling.
This system will allow me to participate in 2way tactical messaging through the APRS system via the Garmin Nuvi's Fleet Management Interface.
Not only will it greatly simplify the setup and install, but will also allow me access to more of the features of the APRS system.
